Our Story

How Dewey's pizza Began

Dewey's pizza was born in 2008 from a simple, unwavering conviction: that great pizza demands great ingredients, real craftsmanship, and a whole lot of heart. What started as a single wood-fired oven in a modest St Charles storefront quickly grew into one of Missouri's most beloved neighborhood pizzerias.

Over the past 16 years, deweys pizza has served hundreds of thousands of guests, expanded our menu to include seasonal specialty pies, homemade sauces from scratch, and locally sourced produce from Missouri farms. Every dough ball is hand-stretched daily. Every sauce simmers for four hours. Every pie is crafted with the same devotion that Dewey brought to the very first pizza he ever made.

2008

The First Oven Lights

Dewey Hartmann opens the original Dewey's pizza location on S 5th Street with a single wood-fired oven, four tables, and a dream. The first night sells out by 7pm.

2011

Best Pizza in St Charles

Dewey's earns its first "Best Pizza" award from the St Charles Dining Guide, cementing its place as the go-to pizzeria in the region. A second oven is installed to meet demand.

2014

Full Dining Room Expansion

Dewey's triples its seating capacity with a full dining room expansion, adding a covered patio, private event space, and a full bar program featuring local craft beers.

2017

Catering Program Launches

After years of guest requests, Dewey's launches its full-service catering program, bringing handcrafted pizzas to weddings, corporate events, and local festivals across Missouri.

2020

Adapting with Resilience

The man behind the legend. Dewey spent three years training in Naples, Italy before returning to his hometown of St Charles to share what he'd learned. His belief that pizza is about connection — not just food — still drives every decision at dewey's.
